Teachers’ and Students’ Perceptions of Song-based Listening Assessment
Abstract
Listening plays an essential role in English language learning because it allows learners to understand spoken messages and interact in real communication. However, many students still experience difficulties in recognizing pronunciation, comprehending meanings, and staying focused during listening activities. To address these challenges, teachers can incorporate engaging materials such as songs and gap-fill activities that provide authentic input and repeated exposure to vocabulary. Music also promotes a relaxed learning environment that reduces anxiety and increases student motivation. This study discusses the significance of listening skills, common challenges faced by learners, the use of song-based techniques as learning support, and practical suggestions for improving listening activities in the classroom.
