Abstract

This study investigates learners’ perceptions of TikTok as a supplementary medium for improving English grammar mastery. In the digital era, social media and information and communication technology (ICT) increasingly shape language learning environments, offering multimodal and flexible learning opportunities. TikTok, originally used for entertainment, has recently become a platform for educational content, including vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method to explore how English learners use TikTok and how they perceive its effectiveness in supporting grammar learning. Participants were selected using purposive sampling, focusing on learners who actively use TikTok for educational purposes. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed through thematic coding. The findings reveal that TikTok positively influences grammar mastery in several ways. Participants reported increased grammatical awareness, the ability to recognize and correct errors, improved vocabulary, and greater motivation to learn. Interactive features such as quizzes and short explanatory videos helped make grammar more engaging and easier to understand. The results also show that TikTok supports both intentional learning, when learners deliberately search for grammar content, and incidental learning, when grammar videos appear during regular browsing. Overall, TikTok functions as an accessible, engaging, and flexible learning resource that can complement traditional classroom instruction when used appropriately.
