WORKSHOP PENGUATAN LITERASI DI SMK NURUL ISLAM LARANGAN
Abstract
Enhancing literacy skills is a primary focus in education, as literacy encompasses not only reading and writing but also critical and creative thinking and character development. As a vocational institution, SMK Nurul Islam Larangan Brebes strives to strengthen its literacy culture through the School Literacy Strengthening Program (PLS). This community service initiative adopted the POAC management framework: Planning, Organizing, Actuating, and Controlling. The implementation strategy involved participatory training and mentoring, including program dissemination, delivery of literacy content, workshops on developing teaching materials, practical application of literacy-based teaching methods, interactive discussions, and evaluation through observation and participant feedback. The results show improved understanding among students and teachers of literacy's importance in learning, increased student reading motivation, and enhanced teacher skills in designing creative, engaging literacy activities. The program also fostered a literacy culture within the school through structured reading activities and relevant reading materials. In conclusion, the initiative proved effective in enhancing student literacy skills and teacher competence, serving as a strategic step toward building a sustainable literacy culture.
