EDUKASI PYTHON UNTUK MENUMBUHKAN MINAT DIGITAL SISWA SEKOLAH MENENGAH PERTAMA
Abstract
Junior high school students had regular access to digital devices, but they predominantly used them for communication and entertainment, while structured opportunities to learn programming remained limited. This community service program aimed to introduce fundamental programming concepts through Python and encourage more productive digital engagement among students of SMP Bhakti Idhata, South Jakarta. The activity was conducted as a 90-minute participatory workshop attended by 21 eighth-grade students. It combined a brief pre-activity assessment, explanation, demonstration, guided hands-on practice, discussion, question-and-answer activities, distribution of a learning module, and a post-activity assessment. The materials covered programming concepts, variables, data types, conditional statements, loops, and simple programs. The results showed that participants were able to follow the coding sequence, run basic Python instructions, identify the relationship between commands and program outputs, and revise errors with facilitators’ assistance. Active participation was evident during practice and discussion. Six planned outputs were completed: an activity video, poster and X-banner, increased introductory knowledge, initial programming skills, a Python learning module, and photographic and video documentation. The module also supported independent follow-up learning. Because numerical pre-test and post-test scores were not documented in the final report, the outcomes were interpreted descriptively rather than statistically. The program indicates that short, practice-oriented instruction can provide an accessible entry point to programming and should be followed by longer project-based sessions and more systematic assessment.
