Abstract

Elementary school students increasingly use digital devices, yet their use is frequently dominated by games and entertainment rather than learning. Limited understanding of digital ethics, screen-time management, age-appropriate content, and parental supervision may reduce learning concentration and increase exposure to harmful content. This community service activity aimed to strengthen students’ knowledge and practical skills for using gadgets safely, responsibly, and productively. The activity was conducted at SDN Tegal Alur 08 PG, West Jakarta, on 8 May 2026 and involved 31 students. The participatory method combined a pre-test, interactive presentation, child-friendly storytelling about digital dos and don’ts, a mini-workshop using educational applications, a Quizizz-based simulation, discussion, ice breaking, and a post-test. The material covered digital ethics, content selection, balanced screen time through the “Diet Gadget” campaign, productive learning activities, and parental-control awareness. The report stated that knowledge of digital literacy and ethics increased by at least 60% and that at least 80% of students could operate educational applications. Students also actively participated in the quiz and demonstrated a shift from entertainment-oriented use toward learning-oriented use during the guided activity. Posters, an X-banner, digital guidance materials, media publication, and a documentation video were produced to support dissemination and continuity. However, raw scores, scoring procedures, and participant-level competency records were not included in the final report; consequently, the numerical achievements are presented as program-reported outcomes rather than independently verifiable effect estimates. Follow-up classroom practice, parental involvement, and transparent evaluation records are recommended.
